Micro-Welding  

Micro-welding is the ideal process for small, intricate welds that can't be performed using normal TIG welding, for weld areas too large for laser welding, and for weld areas where it is necessary to reduce the risk of warping in the heat affected zone.  The system uses gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) with a microscope for up-close vision. The low amperage inputs and small diameter wires decrease warping on the heat affected zone (HAZ) on thin inserts and cores.

All micro-TIG welding jobs are pre-heated to ensure the best quality welding. Failure to pre-heat can cause a variety of problems including increased residual stress and excess distortion. The cost of Micro-Welding is far less than having to remake or rebuild a damaged part.

  • 5-6 times faster on average than laser welding
  • The process utilizes a microscope to provide welds as small as .010  - much smaller than conventional TIG welding
  • Provides smaller weld size to large surface areas - the method of choice when time is of the essence, and is an excellent complimentary technique to laser welding
  • Reduces chance of metal warping

TIG Welding ServicesTool and Die Welding (TIG Welding)

TIG Welding is a staple welding process critical to the performance of tools, dies, molds and inserts. The TIG Welding process allows operators to control heat input and the amount and location of weld metal deposited. Tool and die welding typically involves building a larger surface area so that it can be re-machined to desired tolerances.

  • Produces very high-quality welds
  • Is easily applied to thin materials
  • Welds can be made with or without filler metal
  • Provides precise control of welding variables (i.e. heat, filler material)
  • Welding yields low distortion

MIG Welding

Gas metal arc welding (GMAW or MIG welding) is an electric arc welding process that uses a spool of continuously fed wire. MIG Welding can be used to join long stretches of metal without stopping, and can be used on all thicknesses of steels, aluminum, nickel, as well as stainless steel. We utilize our MIG welding capabilities for custom steel fabrication to customer print specifications, manufacturing products such as industrial carts, tables, racks and weldments.

MIG Welding ServicesBenefits of MIG welding are:

  • High quality welds can be produced much faster
  • Since a flux is not used, there is no chance for the entrapment of slag in the weld metal, resulting in high quality welds
  • The gas shield protects the arc so that there is very little loss of alloying elements (only minor weld spatter is produced)
  • MIG welding is versatile and can be used with a wide variety of metals and alloys
  • The MIG welding process can be operated several ways, including semi and fully automatic

Brazing and Silver Soldering

Brazing and silver soldering are metal joining processes that produce a merging of materials by heating them to a specific temperature and using a filler metal.  The process for both is identical, except in silver soldering the filler metal used has a melting point below 840°F (450°C) and below the melting point of the base metal.  Brazing is most commonly used when working with cast iron.

Benefits of brazing/silver soldering:

  • Allows the joining of dissimilar metals
  • Minimization of heat distortion, and
  • Can reduce the need for extensive pre-heating
  • Since the metals joined are not melted in the process, the components retain their original shape; edges and contours are not eroded or changed by the formation of a fillet
  • Elimination of stored-up stresses that are often present in fusion welding, which is extremely important in the repair of large castings

Stress Relieving

By having your dies and molds stress relieved in our large capacity oven, it eliminates the residual stresses caused by machining, grinding, and making production parts. This process can stress relieve and normalize your tool and mold steels, reducing the risk of mold cracking.  Our furnace has operating capacities ranging from 200° F to 2200° F.
